Organise what you have
Gather copies of the works, the dates they were developed and the agreements connected with them. Identify what has been published and what has stayed internal, and what was produced inside the business or by an outside contractor. This helps the specialist understand the parties' relationship to the possible rights.
Review the agreements
Who is entitled to use, modify or publish? Are there licences, confidentiality obligations or restrictions you agreed to? Problems can arise from the contractual relationship even before a product is launched or registration is discussed.
Before sharing details
Think about how much disclosure is needed and who will receive the information, and ask for a suitable review when the sharing is part of a negotiation, an investment or a collaboration. Do not send sensitive or complete files through a general form.
Choosing the route
After the study, the specialist determines whether the subject relates to a trademark, copyright, a patent, a licence agreement or something else. This article gives no ruling on whether a particular idea qualifies for protection, nor any guarantee that a registration will be accepted.
